“Global warming is the increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth’s near-surface and oceans since the mid-20th century, and its projected continuation. The detailed causes of the recent warming remain an active field of research. The scientific consensus is that the increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases due to human activity caused most of the warming observed since the start of the industrial era, and the observed warming cannot be satisfactorily explained by natural causes alone. This attribution is clearest for the most recent 50 years, for which the most detailed data are available. It has been said that global temperatures have increased by 0.75 °C (1.35 °F) relative to the period 1860–1900, according to the instrumental temperature record.”

As I have remembered during my elementary years, I can play all day under the sun without getting too tired because of its heat. Nowadays, when I play basketball, I always play from 3pm onwards just to evade the sun’s heat. I do feel that the temperature we experience now is higher than it was before.

According to the Modified Coronas Classification, Bulacan where I live has a Type 1 climate classification. A place has a Type 1 climate if it has two pronounced season: dry from November to April and wet during the rest of the year. Due to climate change, brought about by global warming, Bulacan is still experiencing rainfall even if November is already ending. Things right now are really out of control. When it rains, it rains really hard and when it is sunny the temperature is really high.

According to PAGASA signals of a changing climate are already evident in the Philippines as studies of historical records would show. From 1960 to 2003, significant increases in the frequency of hot days and warm nights in many areas of the country have been noted while cool days and cold nights have been seen to be generally decreasing. The same trends have been observed in other countries in the Southeast Asia Pacific Region.

Global warming is not a problem of the developed countries only. It is a problem of every living creature here on earth. We must try our best to lessen the things that contribute to this problem. I think it will be a great help for mother earth if all of us would just try our best not to produce greenhouse gases. We are not only helping mother earth by doing this but also our selves and our future sons and daughters. I think I’ll start by lessening the use of our car and by disposing our garbage properly. I hope this simple things can be a great help for the planet we call our home.
